SIKA: Aggressive growth with Microsoft Dynamics AX

Innovation, quality and aggressive growth, are hallmarks of the SIKA Company. Founded in 1910 in Switzerland the company has expanded to 60 countries – among them Canada. To keep growth on track and administration lean SIKA Canada commissioned Columbus IT to deliver and implement a new ERP-solution based on Microsoft Dynamics AX.

 

The key issues for SIKA and Columbus IT was to integrate business processes across all functional areas thereby streamlining workflow, increase productivity and control all while reducing cost. The solution should also be as standardized as possible since SIKA international guidelines for IT-systems clearly specify the usage of standard solutions that can be implemented with a minimum of customization.

 

Better decisions

The new Microsoft Dynamics AX connects the three of SIKA offices in Canada and consolidates data on a central Microsoft Dynamics AX ERP-server in Montreal. The solution offers full Internet enablement that makes it possible for SIKA to integrate their business processes with customers, suppliers and other partners. It also delivers real time, strategic data for better, quicker management decisions. 

 

Challenges

One of the big challenges during the implementation of the solution was to handle the processes concerning SIKA three warehouses situated across Canada. They operate with long lead times for warehouse transfers, different procurement prices for different locations and SIKA wanted to be able to manage the warehouses centrally from the head office. To achieve this objective the Columbus IT team had to implement some changes I regard to handle inventory transfers between warehouses, location control and internal/external location control.

 

Full package

Another challenge was to enable the Microsoft Dynamics AX solution to handle two languages (French and English). Finally the entire solution should be implemented with little or no disruption of the day-to-day operations. The implementation period was estimated to be 5 months and this proved to be true.

 

SIKA Canada is now running the full accounting package of Microsoft Dynamics AX including Sales, Purchase, Inventory and Production modules. The implementation went according to plan and was delivered on time and within budget.
